As Nissan dealers in Connecticut, we’re extremely proud to tell you that the brand we represent is going to provide standard automatic emergency braking on an estimated one million vehicles that will be sold in the United States during the 2018 model-year. With nearly one-third of all accidents that are reported to police involving a rear-end collision, the Nissan brand’s move can help prevent a significant number of accidents and related insurance claims. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that AEB systems can help reduce insurance claims for injuries by as much as 35 percent.
“The big news here is that we’re making AEB standard across all grades of our best-selling models,” said Michael Bunce, the vice president of Product Planning at Nissan North America, Inc. “This increased AEB availability is part of our ongoing commitment to help reduce fatalities while realizing our comprehensive vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”
The 2018 Nissan models that will have standard AEB include the following:
-2018 Nissan Rogue
-2018 Nissan Rogue Sport
-2018 Nissan Altima
-2018 Nissan Murano
-2018 Nissan LEAF
2018 Nissan Pathfinder
2018 Nissan Maxima
-2018 Nissan Sentra (not including vehicles with a manual transmission or NISMO models)
Certain 2018 Nissan Armada models will also have standard AEB. AEB used to be known as “Forward Emergency Braking.” The system uses radar technology to keep track of how close a car is to the vehicle in front of it. If the car gets too close, the system will provide audible and visual alerts so the driver can slow down and avoid an accident. If the motorist doesn’t react to the warnings, the AEB system will apply the car’s brakes to prevent a collision or reduce the force of impact if an accident can’t be avoided.
