A Look at Nissan ProPILOT Assist Technology

As Nissan dealers in Connecticut, we’re excited to tell you that select Nissan models will soon be equipped with Nissan ProPILOT Assist technology. It’s widely believed that this hands-on-wheel technology is the precursor to what will be the next level of autonomous driving.

When developing the Nissan ProPILOT Assist system for drivers in the United States, the experts at the Nissan Technical Center North America in Michigan put the technology through 50,000 miles of development on actual roadways in America. The Nissan ProPilot Assist combines Steering Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control in both heavy and flowing traffic.

“Nissan is a technology pioneer and ProPILOT Assist sets a strong, consumer-focused foundation for fully autonomous vehicles of the future,” said Takeshi Yamaguchi, the senior vice president of Research and Development at Nissan Technical Center North America, Nissan North America, Inc. “ProPILOT Assist has the ability to track curving lanes, helping the driver stay centered in the lane as well as adjusting for various traffic flow conditions. However, just as non-autonomous vehicles today, ProPILOT Assist requires the driver to remain engaged in the task of driving at all times – though the technology can reduce driver fatigue and increase driving enjoyment.”

We’re happy to tell you that Nissan ProPILOT Assist is expected to be available on certain Nissan models sold in the United States later on this year. By 2020, as many as 10 Nissan models will have this technology.
